Need of effective policy making and implementation in India

At the end of 10th Five year plan, the lack of basic amenities, housing shortages and poor infrastructure still remain as  major concerns in our country.

The total crunch for houses is estimated to be around 2 million in India. There is major shortage of basic amenities in many parts of our country, required for normal living life.  We all need at least potable water, electricity and appropriate solid waste disposal to make life easier for people, mainly who are house less.

Need of effective policy making and implementation in India

When the situation of crunch of  basic amenities is so high, it is necessary that a comprehensive and proper policy framework  is set up to deal with concerned issues like housing shortages and crunch of basis amenities in our country. A comprehensive housing and infrastructure policy which can help to sustain development of people in the country with a thought of ensuring equitable supply of land, shelter and services at affordable prices is so badly needed.  At the same time, along with the access to basic amenities, the right prices to all sections of society are also very important and it should not only benefit a few but many who really needs it to happen.

The Policy should aims to complement poverty alleviation and improving the standard of living of people who are below or on poverty line. There should be employment generation programmes for uplifting of the per capita income of the society which in return can help us in achieving the overall objective of “Affordable Housing For All” with sustainable development.   Policies which bring the government think about the issue of Affordable Housing seriously.

Policies  should also dwell upon the roles of various Stakeholders of the society.  There should be a focus on development not only in urban cities or developed ares but small and medium towns should be taken in consideration. This can sever as a kick start of economic momentum, which will definitely reduce the migration of people from these places to metro or urban cities in search of jobs.

There is also a great requirement to accelerate the pace of its socio-economic progress. There are specific actions required to reform the system and adequate technology support is needed. The basic objective of development should also focus on social economic factors which has been neglected for too long in India.

Need is not only to outline the actions in the plan or policies, but the policy actions outlined in the Plan should be substantially implemented too. This is the scenario we should aim for.

A state of partial action with weak implementation is strictly a No- No for our economy, today.  Government should ensure that framing of substantial policies should be  supported by strong implementation and materialization. Policy-making should overcome the challenges of just being on paper but should turn out as more factual in nature. This is what which can sustain and work for the entire society.

All these policy making and implementation can help making a common man dream of owning the own place and having an access to basic amenities at reasonable price, come true.

Our country and society deserves no less. 🙂
